Hulu is putting its gloves on after handing a straight-to-series order to Mike Tyson limited series Iron Mike.
The streamer has ordered the eight-episode series from I, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie.

The book auction that they ultimately won via their AGBO banner in a $1 million deal was limited by Walker's available phone minutes because the author was still serving a stretch in prison (he was sentenced to 11 years for a series of robberies in Cleveland and the surrounding suburbs but is now out). “He’s like, ‘I don’t want to work with her, she’s not an actress,’” recalls Day. So, I was trying to convince him, like, ‘I’m so glad to meet you, but make sure you just get the right person and do what you need to do.’” “And I had a horrible idea that I would be a stain on her legacy.
And it was so many moments where even in my own head, I’d have to stop and be like, ‘OK, Lady Day, where the f–k are we at? What’s going on?’ I’d have to talk to her. “I had been in her headspace for so long,” says Day. “I felt so inhabited by her, by the spirit of God just bringing me into this place. It was honestly a total out-of-body experience to the point where I still feel a little bit like I am trying to establish who I am in this season.” Some days on set, the performances led to private conversations with her idol.
It was the breakdown of my own family unit, my addiction to men in my early twenties and then my shortcomings that I inflicted on other people, as well as on me. It was informing all of that stuff, allowing our spirits to sort of co-mingle. “Singing her, it was remembering all of that feeling in my body as a Black woman, with the pain of lynching, or knowing my own family members have had crosses burned in their yards, how I’ve been turned away from being served at a gas station, and this need to prove a point or to be defiant to this kind of system. Honestly, I was just praying my way through it.” The experience also brought to the surface some personal memories that Day had to confront. That shell of everything that was her reminded me of my own experiences with trauma.

But as the vocal cues of Lady Day seeped into her performance, further research into the tumultuous history of the singer would make its way to the surface, too.

Honestly, I was really transformed by it.” I think the nerves helped to affect me because I’m sure [Holiday] would have been nervous singing ‘Strange Fruit’, knowing that all those police were back there. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, why would they set me up like this?’” she laughs.
She wasn’t just a tragic drug addict or a troubled singer; she was fighting for us.” “There are things that I’m still trying to recover from, but I would never have done it any other way. It was three years of being in her headspace. It feels so fulfilling and gratifying to be a part of the conversation… especially for me to tell the story of a woman I love so deeply. Taking a quiet moment, Day opens up on how the whole experience has changed her life. People can finally say, ‘Oh, wow, she was actually the godmother of Civil Rights. I would do it exactly the same.

Having been axed from the Fantastic Beasts franchise last November, mere days after Judge Andrew Nicol’s damningly determined against Depp and for the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun, the actor has been on a subpoena binge in the US of late. That follows Heard dragging Pirates studio Disney and the LAPD in to the matter in January for basically everything that they might or might not have on her ex.
With Depp’s UK lawyers anticipating an oral hearing next month in their attempt to appeal their loss in the actor’s libel suit against being called a “wife beater” by The Sun tabloid, the significant date shift in Virginia barely lowers the volume in the loud matter. For once thing, Heard countersued her ex-husband and Rum Diary co-star for $100 million last summer after failing to get the initial suit dismissed.
“Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse, she is a perpetrator,” the suit read in part. The filed paperwork went on to say that in fact it was the fairly litigious Depp who was the real victim in the couple’s short-lived marriage that ended in full public view in 2016.
The last time the fuming matter was postponed was back in September last year. While Depp had been advocating for a new delay then because of his then Fantastic Beasts 3 shooting schedule, Judge White actually pushed the date from January 2021 to May due to backlogs in the state’s court system because of the coronavirus pandemic. The new date was decided yesterday by Fairfax County VA Circuit Court Chief Judge Bruce White.
Among those high profile names in this very high profile case, free speech non-profit the ACLU are in the spotlight again in the case because the group was among the two organizations to which Heard said five years ago she was donating half of her $7 million divorce settlement from Depp. Despite years of insisting on the donation and an ACLU Ambassador for women’s rights role for Heard, it turns out that big bucks payments have been “delayed,” according to what the actress’ attorney Elaine Bredehoft told Deadline in January.
In fact, in the UK, Heard’s team recently filed an opposition to the appeal there, and Depp’s barristers have until February 28 to reply.
Already rescheduled several times and in what was looking like the final mad rush of discovery and depositions the trial had been set to start on May 7.
The April 2022 date was the first available slot for a civil jury trial, I hear.
In yet another delay in the trial start of the former Pirates of the Caribbean star’s acetous $50 million defamation lawsuit against the Aquaman actress, the former couple will now trade barbs and evidence on April 11, 2022. The trial is expected to last about two weeks, give or take a few days.
In that context, and with proceedings slowly starting up against as Covid-19 continues to rage across the nation, a murder trial with a defendant who is already behind bars was handed the Depp/Heard May 7 date. As with last September, criminal cases are still the priority in Virginia.
Obviously, Amber Heard disagreed.
And, to the frustration of some involved, that’s kind of the reason this time round too.
This all started when Depp sued Heard in Virginia state court for $50 million in March 2019 after she wrote a Washington Post op-ed about being a victim of domestic abuse. The December 2018 piece never actually named the actor, but the already fairly litigious Depp alleged the op-ed damaged his already tainted rep and cost him a well-paying gig in Disney’s planned Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.

HBO execs Janet Graham Borba and Susanna Felleman are gaining expanded roles and HBO Max and Turner execs Sandra Dewey and Pat Kelly are leaving. The move will see a number of staff changes across the teams.
Graham Borba, who has been at HBO since 1995, becomes EVP, Production for HBO and HBO Max. She has overseen shows including Game of Thrones and became the head of HBO’s Production Department, with oversight of Los Angeles and New York-based production, post-production, and production operations team in 2016.
He will stay on for a period of time to assist with the transition. Kelly headed the HBO Max Business Affairs team under Dewey’s leadership, and during his 19 years at the company, oversaw day-to-day deal making for original series, co-productions, international distribution and worldwide home video, as well as business affairs for such specials as the AFI Life Achievement Award and advertiser-supported initiatives.
The production and business affairs teams at HBO and HBO Max are being merged as the WarnerMedia streamlines operations between the cable network and streamer.

An award-winning filmmaker, poet, and photographer, Jackson’s short films Nettles and A Guide to Breathing Underwater are currently streaming on the Criterion Channel. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, TriQuarterly, CALYX, Kweli, Phantom Limb, and PANK, along with her recently published poetry chapbook little violences.
Production is expected to begin later this year. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the story chronicles decades in the life of a Black woman in rural Tennessee. The script was one of five films selected for the Ikusmira Berriak Residency in San Sebastián, Spain, and was handpicked by Barry Jenkins for Indie Memphis’ 2019 Black Filmmaker Residency in Screenwriting.

‘Halo’ TV Series Moves From Showtime To Paramount+

The show will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future. Halo reinvented how people think about video games and has grown into a global entertainment phenomenon, having sold more than 81 million copies worldwide. In the television series adaptation, starring Pablo Schreiber, Halo will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant.
But once ViacomCBS settled on a three-lane streaming strategy — free ad-supported, broad-pay and premium-pay —  "we all felt that Halo is a broad-pay and premium-pay show," Nevins said.
The audience for Your Honor, which debuted in December, has already surpassed 8.1 million viewers across platforms in Showtime's 27 million-28 million home universe, on pace to become the biggest debut season in the network's history. The massive ratings success of the Bryan Cranston-starrer Your Honor has given Showtime a strong momentum, which made the decision to let Halo move to Paramount+ easier.
Paramount+ is the latest traditional media company-launched streamer to recruit high-profile new scripted series from one of its cable channels among its first offerings. Meanwhile, Showtime will remain "a premium adults programming service" and home of "sophisticated dramas" like Your Honor, Nevins said.
"We were on the hunt for signature shows beyond the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access and were thinking, what could be a defining series for Paramount+," Nevins said. Late last fall, the top executives got to see first finished footage from Halo, which put the idea of a move to Paramount+ on an accelerated path. "Halo always fit the bill but seeing it, we felt it would work," Nevins said.
Halo, which had filmed 55%-60% of its first season when the coronavirus pandemic shut down all production last March, had been floated for months as a possibility for Paramount+ at the ViacomCBS Content Council and in conversations between Nevins and ViacomCBS president and CEO Bob Bakish.
Halo was originally developed "with an eye toward expanding the palette at Showtime to four-quadrant shows," Nevins said.

Produced by Showtime in partnership with 343 Industries, along with Amblin Television, the series is currently in production in Budapest and will premiere on Paramount+ in Q1 2022.

Halo will be distributed globally by CBS Studios International. The series was originally announced in 2013 as one of the big series to launch Xbox’s original content effort. Amblin Television has worked on Halo for almost a decade. The adaptation got a green light in June 2018. It moved to Showtime shortly after Xbox Entertainment Studios was shut down in 2014 and had been in the works at the premium cable network ever since. Following one more bump in the form of a director change several months later, the series got on track and has been moving along, only interrupted by the pandemic.
It is an example of breaking down silos at ViacomCBS, along with Paramount TV Studios producing promising pilot American Gigolo for Showtime. Showtime will continue to produce Halo for Paramount+, and the network's creative executive team, led by Gary Levine and Amy Israel, who had been working on the series for years, will continue to oversee it.

‘The Real Criminal Minds’ Docu Series In Works At Paramount+

I hear it is expected to be led by longtime Criminal Minds executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer. Talks are currently underway with most — if not all — cast members from the show's final season on CBS about returning for the Paramount+ revival. A creative team for the scripted revival is currently being assembled. ABC Signature and CBS Studio, the studios behind the original Criminal Minds drama, are producing both the scripted revival and the docu series.
Created by Jeff Davis, Criminal Minds aired on CBS for 15 seasons, from 2005 to 2020. It remains one of the most popular off-network titles on Netflix, which likely fueled the interest in reviving the franchise by the ViacomCBS' own streamer.
Tentatively titled The Real Criminal Minds, the true crime docu series will be featuring a former real FBI profiler. It will examine real cases, and real criminal behavior, illustrated by clips from the fictional Criminal Minds series. Talks are still ongoing but I hear the idea is for a prominent Criminal Minds cast member to host the program.

The show told the story of the team as they worked various cases, and tackled their personal struggles. The original scripted series followed a group of criminal profilers who work for the FBI as members of its Behavioral Analysis Unit using behavioral analysis and profiling to investigate crimes and find perpetrators.
As Deadline reported last week, a scripted revival series with original cast members is in early development at the ViacomCBS streamer. The project is expected to be announced at ViacomCBS' streaming presentation this afternoon. We can now reveal that a companion unscripted series also is in the works at Paramount+.

The company said Pluto now has 30.1 million domestic monthly active users (compared with 12 million when it was acquired two years ago) and 43 million globally. Domestic streaming subscribers spanning CBS All Access and Showtime rose 71% from the same quarter in 2019 to 19.2 million.
Those forces prompted Viacom, before it merged with CBS in late 2019, to acquire ad-supported streaming service Pluto TV for $340 million. The former aide, Lindsey Boylan, who worked for the state's economic development agency, led off a blog post on Wednesday describing harassment on a plane flight in October of 2017 when she said the governor joked that they should play strip poker, and alleged other incidents including an unsolicited kiss on the lips, frequent remarks by the governor about female colleagues and another aide telling her Cuomo had a crush on her.
The state was accused of reporting the passing of thousands of nursing home residents as hospital deaths if the patients ultimately passed away in a hospital. The governor — who has been a steady hand in the pandemic with frequent press briefings that won him a Special Emmy, and who was a gleeful critic of former President Trump — is currently in the midst of a scandal for allegedly under-reporting Covid nursing home deaths in the state. The issue wasn't new but it blew up earlier this month when one of his closest aides appeared to tell state lawmakers that the administration “froze” in handing over nursing home data.

Ziwe joins a booming late night scene, which features her former bosses Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, Lilly Singh, Amber Ruffin and Sam Jay.
She also said that the main difference between her IG show and the Showtime series was that this was a “fully-fledged” production. It will feature Search Party and At Home with Amy Sedaris star Cole Escola, who Ziwe said was also a writer on the show, as well as guest appearances from the likes of Jane Krakowski and Christin Milioti.
Ziwe has lifted the lid on her eponymous Showtime sketch comedy series as the ViacomCBS network has set a May premiere for the show.

Tiger Woods Suffers “Multiple Leg Injuries” In Los Angeles Car Crash, Extricated With “Jaws Of Life”

He crashed his car in 2009, which set off a series of revelations about his personal life.
The crash occurred on a residential street in Palos Verdes. Golf legend Tiger Woods was injured in a one-car accident in Los Angeles this morning and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

WGAW Forms Middle Eastern Writers Committee; Inaugural Event Set With Ramy Youssef
