Serial Box Hires Head Of Content, More As It Eyes Originals Push

"Collectively Hayley, Rhoda and Marco bring a combination of experience ideally suited to Serial Box’s focus on creating exclusive content around household name characters like Marvel’s Black Panther, Black Widow, Jessica Jones and Thor as well as creating and packaging our own original content for our platform, film and television,” Yap said Thursday.
Wagriech will report to co-founder and CEO Molly Barton and co-founder and president Julian Yap. Belleza and Palmieri will report to Wagreich. As part of the push, Serial Box also said Thursday it hired Rhoda Belleza and promoted Marco Palmieri. Both will have the title of VP Content Development.

Ruth E. Carter Explains How Zamunda Costumes Will Change For ‘Coming To America 2’

At a gala Saturday night in Los Angeles, hosted by the Black Design Collective, Carter said she's in the early stages of mapping out the costumes for the Craig Brewer-directed film.
Yet, even after winning an Oscar for her Wakandan creations on Black Panther, Carter said she doesn’t want to disappoint Coming to America fans.
Los Angeles-based red carpet designer Kevan Hall is one of the founders of the newly created collective.
They handed out a $10,000 scholarship Saturday night. Hall and fellow designers Angela Dean, and TJ Walker started the organization to promote and support the work of black fashion designers and costumers, as well as to raise money for students at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in downtown L.A.
Last week, Carter posted pictures on Instagram with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, confirming she’ll be dressing the cast of the forthcoming Coming to America sequel.
John Landis directed the original film, and his wife Deborah Nadoolman Landis designed the costumes for the 1988 comedy, earning an Oscar nomination for her work on the clothes for the fictional African country of Zamunda.
Carter is carefully stitching together a plan for her next assignment — bringing the costumes to life for Coming to America 2. After winning an Oscar for her groundbreaking costumes on the Ryan Coogler blockbuster Black Panther, Ruth E.
It really is about pulling up more chairs to the proverbial table, and if they don't allow us to pull up our chairs, then we say f–k it and build our own house.”” /> Union continued, “I hope that with Ruth's win, it really is about change.
"She's been a huge part of my career from the very beginning," Union said on the red carpet. "And she continues to allow us to shine and do what we do best and kill it.”
"I’m reunited with Eddie Murphy. "I’m excited about it," she said. We’ve done several projects together."
We’re not trying to change the look, but we are going to modernize some things to show the new generation." "We’re going to continue Zamunda. "It’s big shoes to step in. That’s an iconic film," she noted.
Union went on to describe Carter’s Oscar win as "inspirational," but cautioned only time will tell if it opens doors to more diversity among Hollywood's costume design ranks.
"We got these questions when Halle won. Is your life going to change, and we were all like 'yes!' and then it didn't,” Union said about Halle Berry’s 2002 Best Actress Oscar win for her role in Monster's Ball. They asked is your career going to change?
The costumer has a storied career, having previously worked on dozens of films, including Malcolm X, Selma, Amistad and Do the Right Thing, just to name a few. She was honored during the Black Design Collective's debut scholarship gala, for becoming the first African-American to take home an Academy Award in the Costume Design category.
“We just saw a need for there to be an opportunity to help young designers find their way,” Hall explained. “We wanted to be able to give back."
Actress Gabrielle Union, who starred on BET's Being Mary Jane, attended the gala and praised Carter — who worked on the series — for giving her character style.

‘Black Panther’ Goes From Tentpole To Cultural Milestone: No. 2 In 2018 Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament

THE FILM

The true tale is told when production budgets, P&A, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament for 2018, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Here are the costs and revenues as our experts see them:
Following the the embarrassment of #OscarsSoWhite four years ago, Black Panther incentivized the film industry beyond wishes, opening the doors to more inclusive storytelling, but also further demonstrating that there’s a strong business in four-quad tentpoles featuring actors of color. With Disney and Marvel’s full might behind it, emerging superstar director Ryan Coogler, and a cast of the best and brightest Black actors, and the best reviews of any Marvel superhero movie fueling it, Black Panther became a cultural milestone at the global box office and the Oscars as well with seven nominations including Bests Picture and three wins for original score, production design and costume design. In the past many African American movies do not mirror their domestic performance, but Black Panther drew a nearly equal result abroad at $646.8M to its $700M U.S./Canada ticket sales. after Force Awakens ($936.6M) and Avatar ($760.5M). Black Panther is the third highest grossing film at the domestic B.O. Worldwide the pic grossed $1.34B. T'Challa aka Black Panther was a deeper universe character and was introduced in 2016's Captain America: Civil War alongside the fractured Avengers. Black Panther may have notched the 6th best opening of all-time with $202M at the domestic box office, but in regards to its 4-day launch over the Presidents Day weekend, it's third with $242.1M behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($288M) and Avengers: Infinity War ($282.4M).

THE BOX SCORE
Subtracted from that is slightly more than a half billion in costs including P&A, global video, interest and $45M of participations. This puts Black Panther's net profit at $476.8M,  an amount which surpasses last year's No. 1 profit winner in our B.O. tournament, Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($417.5M).” /> Between global film rentals, TV revenues and streaming, and DVD video revenues, Black Panther earns close to a $1 billion.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ Is Biggest Trailer Launch In History

Twitter conversation (549K) also has surpassed the 24-hour volume for all comps, including first content releases for Black Panther (349k) and the previous record-holder, Avengers: Infinity War (389k).
The new record may have been even higher if not for a bit of misdirection which saw the URL for Avengers:Endgame.com redirected to its site for Once Upon A Deadpool, which bows this month. The redirect on that URL was still active this morning.
There's a new record in movie trailer launches: Avengers: Endgame had 289 million views over the last 24 hours, surpassing the Avengers: Infinity War total of 236 million views and The Lion King's 224.6 million over the same time measurement.

The Bart & Fleming Podcast: Tracking The Annual Oscar-Season Movie Surprise

If there’s no late surprise, voters may look back on Black Panther, which opened long before the award fervor started.
Some guess Roma, but it’s in Spanish; others guess The Favourite, but it’s as mean-spirited as it is witty; and some look to Vice, but it’s very political.
This is the moment when insiders try to guess whether there’ll be a "surprise movie" of the awards season — the film that comes in late but builds instant enthusiasm, as we discuss in the latest edition of The Bart & Fleming Podcast.

‘Aquaman’ First Day Ticket Sales Robust: Atom Hits 24-Hour Record; DC Superhero Pic Beating ‘Venom’ On Fandango

Atom Tickets has been selling movie tickets for roughly the last two years versus Fandango which has been around since 2000. Advance ticket sales aren't always an indicator that a film will open huge. However that was the case this past year when early on, advance tickets for Black Panther were seen to be besting Captain America: Civil War's 24-hour sales record. It's possible that if Solo's production was handled controversy-free, we might be looking at a higher gross for the prequel rather than being the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie of all-time at $392.6M WW. Despite their phenomenal B.O. success, Disney had an Achilles heel No disrespect to the summer (and the year's) box office leader, who repped 38% of the season's box office with $1.8 billion. While there are myriad reasons why Solo failed, there was a prompt jaded reaction for the film coming off its Super Bowl trailer, and a lot of that has to do with the studio's public divorce from the pic's original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller: Fans smelled blood. With Solo's bombing, suddenly Disney's whole Marvel-like studio plan of churning out spin-off Star Wars character movies became dead in the water. This is the studio which has propelled its success off the Walt Disney business philosophy of 'plusing', continually making scripts and marketing increasingly better and churning out branded product which greatly appeals to both critics and the masses in a do-or-die social media age. But they owned one of two big budget bombs this season: Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Great movies at the box office drive business for other titles, thanks to the age-old marketing of in-theater trailers, and Black Panther (yes, that February release which hit $700M) set a fire at the box office that burned well past Infinity War. Every month – From April to August – there was more than one blockbuster that audiences could wrap their arms around and be reminded of why they love going to the movies.“ Says Imax CEO Greg Foster, "Thankfully, because of Avengers: Infinity War, summer started in April instead of May, which created the all-important momentum that our industry thrives on.

MoviePass couldn't get, nor can it still get, its health-club financial model to work and that's because they're less of a disruptor and more of a third-party outsider, which meant exhibition and distribution would never cede any share of their box office income. ‘Black Panther’ Expects To Surpass $700M In Domestic Box Office This Weekend

The film's February box office set records by earning $242.1M over President’s Day weekend, including a Friday-Sunday gross of $202M, followed by one of the biggest second weekends in history with $111.7M (now ranking as the third-biggest second frame ever behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War).
” /> With an additional $646.7M internationally, Black Panther’s global cume has risen to $1.346B to date, ranking as the second-biggest film so far this year, trailing only Avengers: Infinity War.
Another financial milestone is expected to arrive this weekend for Marvel Studios' Black Panther, which should cross the $700M in domestic box office gross at some point, making it the third film ever to top that mark.
The film, released Feb. 16, is now in its 25th weekend. With an A+ CinemaScore and a  97% Certified Fresh on RottenTomatoes, the film has continually established new records since its debut.

‘Black Panther’ Items To Be Displayed At Smithsonian African-American Museum

https://twitter.com/NMAAHC/status/1009519861561782273″ />
The museum said the film and the collection "illustrates the progression of blacks in film, an industry that in the past has overlooked blacks, or regulated them to flat, one-dimensional and marginalized figures. The film, like the museum, provides a fuller story of black culture and identity."
Marvel's Black Panther character was the first black superhero in comic books, created in the late 1960s during the height of the civil rights movement, which the museum said was "a critical period in American history and an era that the museum explores in many of its exhibitions.
In addition to the costume, also acquired were a shooting script signed by Black Panther co-writer/director Ryan Coogler, producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, executive producer Nate Moore and co-writer/producer Joe Robert Cole; two pages of spec script; and 24 high-resolution production photographs.
The Smithsonian NMAAHC announced the acquisitions on its website and via Twitter with the hashtag #WakandaForever. The museum did not indicate when the display would go live.
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture has acquired several objects from the Black Panther film, including the costume worn by star Chadwick Boseman.

Kevin Feige Talks Marvel’s Success, Female Directors, ‘Infinity War II’ & How He’s “Bad With Numbers” – Produced By

Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige was one of the definite highlights at this morning's 10th annual PGA Produced By Conference, and while he didn't divulge details on whether Thanos truly wins in Avengers: Infinity War II, he said, "We're working on the next five years (at Marvel), post-Avengers and what that looks like." Also, he said that Ant-Man and the Wasp is finished and that post on Infinity War II is already underway.
On the $1.3 billion success of Black Panther, Feige said that Marvel "wanted to destroy the myth that black movies don't work well around the world," and being at Disney with its platinum marketing department allowed the comic book studio to swing for the fences.
"There's never enough money whether you're working on an USC student film or back-to-back Avengers movies. It takes a discipline…you can throw a lot of money at something and it won't solve a creative problem," he said.
Will Marvel's TV universe like Luke Cage head to the big screen? "I don't rule anything out," he said.
On failure, not that Marvel has had much. We've had test screenings that are awful, even going back to our earlier movies, we'd (get responses) where we were like 'Well, that was fun while it lasted.' Our job is to get in and do whatever it takes."” /> "Failure is an option to do things better. We've just had it on every film before they were released.
Not just Feige, but the town — and the motion picture business — have come a long way in their attitudes toward comic book movie adaptations. Feige remembered a time during his younger days in the biz when "big decision makers at the studios prided themselves on not opening up a comic book, and not reading them, which I think was a mistake."
"We can't imagine the movie without them, and the future movies we hope to make with them," he said.
Here's what Feige had to say about how Marvel ticks, and the waves it has made:
The Marvel boss mentioned that agencies are sending more female directors than men for Marvel directing jobs. And having more female directors behind his superhero pics is a trend he plans to maintain, “I cannot promise that (the next) 20 Marvel movies will have female directors but a heck of a lot of them will,” he said in response to an audience member's question. More female directors on Marvel pics: Captain Marvel is the first Marvel title to have a female director at the helm Anna Boden (who is co-helming with Ryan Fleck.
Their resumes, like Marvel's directors, didn't scream tentpole experience, but Feige is grateful he heard them pitch rather than rely on his regular team. Feige also applauded Black Panther director Ryan Coogler's championing his diverse below-the-line team in Hannah Beachler as production designer, Ruth Carter's costumes, and DP Rachel Morrison.
In a conversation with Deadline's Awards Editor Pete Hammond, Feige looked back on his career, his rise from USC film student to production assistant at Shuler Donner Productions, to being the town's preeminent box office hit-meister with 19 pics that have opened at No. 1 and amassed $16 billion at the global box office.
"The budget for Black Panther was bigger than Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and you can't do that without the support and encouragement from the leaders of the company," he said.
At one point, Feige told her "Why don't you just let us do it? Her version of the story was that she threw a sandwich at us (when I said that) — however, the meeting was then over." Six or seven months later they reunited, and figured out a way to work together.
On making Spider-Man: Homecoming with Sony: When Amy Pascal was head of Sony Pictures' Motion Pictures Group, she'd meet with Feige on how they could be more involved. "She was very gracious," Feige said, saying she would have his team provide script notes on Spider-Man movies.
While below-the-line spend stays relatively similar on Marvel titles, above-the-line spend increases as the actors become committed to more films.
"I'm very bad with numbers — math wasn't a good subject for me," said Feige, who admitted his confusion when execs throw charts and graphs at him. He's bad with numbers, but budgeting takes discipline. His talent was always with developing story, evident in his rise at Shuler Donner from being a receptionist at the company to an associate producer on X-Men.
"When we were developing Captain America: Civil War we had a plan with and without Spider-Man since we were gearing up to shoot as we were negotiating with Sony to get Spider-Man," said the Marvel boss.
Hiring indie directors like Coogler, Taika Waititi and Jon Watts: Feige said he's big on hiring indie directors who've never worked on huge movies given their voice. "Find people who have unique points of views who have something to say and surround them with talented people," he said.
Feige provided an example on the first Iron Man movie where they turned an expensive VFX surgery scene, where Tony Stark operates on himself, into a poignant, significantly more frugal scene where Gwyneth Paltrow operates on him instead. Feige gives props to Marvel EP Louis D'Eposito "who is amazing at handling budgets" and department heads who can find a solution that's always better than one that entails extra dollar spends.

Benedict Cumberbatch Calls Martin Freeman’s ‘Sherlock’ Criticisms “Pathetic”

I don’t necessarily agree with that… I just don’t feel affected by that in the same way, I have to say.” “It’s pretty pathetic if that’s all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality,” said Cumberbatch. “What, because of expectations? I don’t know.
It seems that Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have a difference of opinion when it comes to the current direction of the Masterpiece series at PBS.
In an interview last month with The Telegraph, Freeman, who plays the titular character's partner-in-solving-crime John Watson, referred to the show as a "mini-Beatles thing." He said by the fourth season, making Sherlock has become "kind of impossible." His constructive criticism continued and he added that with the expectations of the show's fanbase, "it's not fun anymore."
Cumberbatch, who plays the iconic and eccentric titular sleuth, chimed in on Freeman's critiques in a recent interview with The Telegraph.
Cumberbatch and Freeman's difference of opinion on the Masterpiece series is probably for the best since there are no plans for a fifth season of the series. Plus, the two are currently busy with their places in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, who appears in the upcoming Infinity War and Freeman fresh off of his role as Everett Ross in Black Panther.
The fourth season of Sherlock ended over a year ago and there haven't been any solid plans for a fifth. However, last year at Comic-Con, EP Sue Vertue mentioned they were working on something but said "we’re not telling what it is."” />

White so clean, you know I’m flipping that Persil
Soon be the million dollar man, like I’m living with Virgil
Real shit, seen a little rehearsal
Big gun like Rick, it’s like I’m living with Hershel
Gangster, gangster
I’m with Lisa and Jackie, grab Samantha
Little bit of Drake and brang that Sampha
I’m the darkest, rap Black Panther
Man don’t powder, and I doubt man pamper
Man are real badman, unnu dat man stand for
I’m in an HSB, I went and bucked one banker
A lot of man play Ken, but man ah badman Blanka
Grab it and swerve it, turn it, grab it and burn it
Banging that Kermit, you gotta grab it and firm it
Banging that German whip, slanging that Sherman
If man has to burn then fuck it, I’m grabbing that burner
I just linked up with Buck and I’m with Alex in Berlin
Gravity surfing, cavities hurting
Man of no mercy, man have been murking
Man are just actors, man are rehearsing
And man was all talking
Now man are reverting
And now man are converting

Section Boyz – Whippin Excursion Freestyle

(Beam me up Scotty)

Whippin’ excursion
Oh shit, I’ve gotta pick up that person
In the trap house, whipping that work and
You’re not a gangster, you’re just an internet version
Whippin’ that wurzel
You know me, I’ve got the littlest circle
Mrs in the crib, you know I’m keeping that fertile
We don’t take pictures, you know I’m keeping that personal
White so clean, you know I’m flipping that Persil
Soon be the million dollar man, like I’m living with Virgil

Game & Marsha Ambrosius – Sins Of Our Fathers (The Birth Of A Nation The Inspired By Album) letras

[Hook: Marsha Ambrosius]
Sins of our fathers
Father, forgive me
And after all I gave you stole my name
And took away from me
Our founding fathers
What have you gave to me?
I’ve been the victim of a broken home
You stole away from me
Sins of our fathers
Sins of our fathers

[Verse 1: The Game]
I could hit you with the “Yes master”, pastor
Or I could close the box on your ass like cold pizza
Whips and chains, brain gone, mind in shackles
Cam Newton, a Black Panther hard to tackle
Mix the moonshine with the Snapple
The White House a plantation
But they’re teachin’ our kids it’s a castle
Built by slaves, my guilt by trade, the maze
Lab rats pickin’ cotton inside invisible cages
House nigga, he hate us more than the massa
Burn his own church and smile in the face of the pastor
The last days, drinkin’ our own sweat in the field
Either kneel or you get your ass killed
[Hook: Marsha Ambrosius]
Sins of our fathers
Father, forgive me
And after all I gave you stole my name
And took away from me
Our founding fathers
What have you gave to me?
I’ve been the victim of a broken home
You stole away from me
Sins of our fathers
Sins of our fathers

[Verse 2: The Game]
They gave my great-great grandfather lashes ’cause he stole a fuckin’ horse
Now 500 horsepower in my mothafuckin’ Porsche
As I light my torch on this Mississippi porch
Let the Mississippi River shatter windows on my [?]
Corpses is, of course this is, genocide
I’m in the same church where little kids and women died
I can hear the voices, ropes around throats
Separated our families when they stacked us on them boats
Choke, as your legs shake you start to lose hope
Wishin’ the branch would break, but nope
Soon as your neck snap, they start laughin’ and takin’ pictures
‘Cause to them you ain’t nothin’ but a mothafuckin’ nigga
500 years later, I’m in the club
Chain on my neck, Harriet Tubman on the dub
Ben Franklin on the hundred, Hamilton on the ten
Even in death, she still surrounded by white men

[Hook: Marsha Ambrosius]
