Jane Campion was named Best Director by the NYFCC today for Netflix's The Power of the Dog, which also scored with Cumberbatch and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who took the Best Supporting Actor vote. Kathryn Hunter was named Best Supporting Actress for her performance The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Hamaguchi's pic premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, where it scored the Screenplay prize. The NYFCC, founded in 1935, includes critics from daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and online publications and tends to favor more independent fare. Last year, it chose Kelly Reichardt and A24's First Cow as its Best Film, the marquee among 12 categories up for grabs. Chloé Zhao, who eventually won two Oscars for Searchlight's Nomadland (Best Picture and Director), won the group's directing award a year ago.

This Week In Music: JoJo Siwa, Lady Gaga, The Bee Gees And Go-Go All In The Groove

RAGE ON: The return of Rage Against The Machine has been secured for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2020. Its Instagram feed has details on shows starting in March as a warmup. The political rock act will have singer Zack de la Rocha and lead guitarist Tom Morello on board. The band has been on hiatus since 2011 and hasn’t toured since 2010.
The added perk doesn’t increase the student music plan, which is $4.99 per month for full access. You will need to verify your college enrollment to qualify. APPLE DEALING: The discounted Apple student music plan will include access to Apple TV+ at no additional charge.
BEE GEES MOVIE: Graham King, the Bohemian Rhapsody producer, now plans to tackle the life story of the Bee Gees. The good news: Paramount has purchased the rights to the Bee Gees songs, so we will hear them in the film. King is teaming with Paramount Pictures and production company Sister to create the biopic, which has not yet been written or cast.
NEW DON PASSMAN EDITION: Veteran music business attorney Don Passman, who represents Taylor Swift, Paul Simon, Adele and Stevie Wonder, has released an updated edition of his seminal All You Need To Know About the Music Business. The first edition debuted in 1991. Its 10th edition is now out. Passman is a partner at Gang Tyre Ramer Brown & Passman, and has also written three novels.
The concert season never really ends. It just moves indoors and outdoors as the weather permits, allowing stars to choose between intimate venues, sheds, stadiums and arenas, as their following permits.
And for those who can't choose between new and old, there's always the musical selections of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which offers something for everyone. One is an up-and-comer, the other a returning veteran. Two attractions dominated the concert news this week.
The unique, percussive sound of go-go was created by Chuck Brown in the 1970s and has become identified with the city. Although there was an issue with residents of a luxury apartment who complained about the music blaring from a Metro PCS story, public opinion seems largely in favor. WASHINGTON, DC AU GO-GO: The District’s City Council will hold a public hearing to determine whether go-go music should become the official music of the city.

28. All are the warmup for the traditional Santa Claus float at the end of the parade. MACY’S PARADE LINEUP: This year's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City will have Pose actor Billy Porter, the Black Eyed Peas, TLC, Chicago, Kelly Rowland, Ozuma, Ciara, Chris Young, NCT 127, Idina Menzel, Lea Michele, and Debbie Gibson perform. The show starts at 9 AM on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov.
This week in music:
LADY GAGA IS BACK: The star of A Star Is Born will team with Ridley Scott to make a movie about the murder of Guccio Gucci's grandson Maurizio Gucci, the former head of the luxury Italian fashion house. Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani, the wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was convicted of orchestrating the hit on her husband.Lady Gaga was nominated for Best Actress for her “Star” turn and won Best Original Song for Shallow.
The Tour. JOJO RAKES IN THE DOUGHDOUGH: YouTube and Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa scored more than $8 milllion on her final leg of her North American D.R.E.A.M. Siwa first came to attention on the TV shows Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition and Dance Moms, then pumped up the volume with YouTube and a vast empire that includes makeup and accessory lines, books, and singles and Eps. She has now earned $26.9 million in ticket sales for this year. Siwa sold 97% of available tickets to her dates at theaters, arenas and amphitheaters.
AEG updated its privacy policy earlier this year to allow for collecting facial images at its events. But COO Melissa Ormond said earlier this month that there are no plans to implement the technology. NO FACE TIME: Concert promoters AEG Presents and Live Nation have said they are not planning to implement facial recognition technology at music festivals. Ticketmaster, a subsidiary of Live Nation, had partnered with Texas facial recognition startup Blink Identity, and touted the deal as a way to prevent counterfeit tickets and long lines.

‘A Star Is Born’, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ And The Relatability Of Love & Family — The Contenders LA

Warner Bros brought out the big guns for Deadline's Contenders LA confab with A Star Is Born director/co-writer/producer/star Bradley Cooper and cinematographer Matthew Libatique as well as stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh from the hit romcom Crazy Rich Asians.
"It's the gift that keeps on giving," Golding said about the first studio film in 25 years with an all-Asian cast.
that what I wanted to do, to tell a story that was all about connection and about humans needing each other in order to grow." Said Cooper: "Movies, for me, have always been something I feel connected to and a part of …
"It was a joy every day we were on set and got to hear her sing," lauded Cooper. "To be able to pull Lady Gaga on a stage that is four times smaller than where she normally goes and believe that she’s actually never been there a week after she headlined Coachella, it was mind-blowing." Although she wasn't present today, the session couldn't end without bringing up Lady Gaga's performance.
Following the A Star Is Born presentation, the gang from CRA took the stage, basking in the success of the history-making film, which has grossed more than $170 million in North America.
"It was a culmination of certain things," he said. Also, finding our identity and our voice in this world, those are the things I wanted to explore." "I wanted to tell a love story, I think it's something we could all relate to, hopefully.
"It's a real feel-good movie. It's about love. Very relatable to everyone," said Yeoh, speaking about the film's positive reception. It's about family.
She added, "I knew that Crazy Rich Asians was going to be special."” />
"I really love the sandbox of this and the singing. I thought there’s no purer way to, first of all, be present and also there is something about music. I thought this was the best way to tell a love story." He added that chose this particular property not only because he's love the previous iterations. It's beyond language.
Cooper, who is coming off of a successful first directing outing, talked about why he chose to remake this story.
For Wu, her starring role in ABC's Fresh Off The Boat and" being a part of this conversation about representation and inclusion changed the course of the types of roles I wanted to do"

Don’t you rob that nigga bare face
Young nigga you better mask up
My grandma told me pull my pants up
She said god got the answer
Every time I think about my brother
I’m pouring lean in the phantom
(Rest in peace [?])
My young nigga beat his case
All these tats on my face
I can’t go and get a job
I had no choice but to make it
Lamborginni with the door
Are your sure you want to race
I told that bitch she got to go
Slammed the door in her face
You ain’t rob nobody
You ain’t shot nobody
Nobody nigga, nobody nigga
You ain’t even nobody
This shit was a dream at first
We was all friends at first
I just want to know why you changed homie?
You was on my team at first
We was buddy buddy
We would talk to hoes
We was Kid Cudi
We was dressing alike we was going to school
Acting like we was twin brothers
I would never fuck with you or trust you homie
But I still love you
And if your son even need me homie
Let him know I’m there for you
Their aunty, their mother, forever I’ll love you
When you lost your son I shed a tear for you
Rest in peace [?]
I got shot three times
They tried to put me to rest
It wasn’t time for me to leave
Cuz the lord wanna let me live
You know, I seen that shit like a long time ago and shit
When I use to be there, go down the street
And beat on beat on church wild and shit
And umm hear my freestyles and shit
You know what I’m taking about?
Niggas use to laugh at me and shit
And and and they thought, they thought that shit was funny
You know but I always told niggas, I will be that nigga one day
Know what I’m talking about?
Just wait and see
And umm, look at me now
I grew up poor my nigga, but I’m rich as fuck now
I made a way for my family
When you born rich
You ain’t gon be broke when you get older nigga
Cuz you ain’t got no hustle about yourself
Ain’t nobody thought you how to go get it
Know what I’m saying
So I grew up poor and broke
I slept on the floor
I work for food my nigga
So what that tell ya
Imma be rich forever
